The 2023 season saw a fascinating dynamic unfold in Grenadian women's sprinting, with Halle Hazzard establishing herself as the undisputed queen of the 100m and Shantay Augustine emerging as a promising challenger as she begins to exit the junior level.

Hazzard, already a familiar name on the local and international circuit, put together a remarkable year. Her blistering run of 11.34s at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest marked her personal best performance. She consistently clocked sub-12-second times throughout the season, showcasing her unwavering speed and dedication. By the end of 2023, 5 of the top 10 best times run by a Grenadian female sprinter belonged to Halle Hazzard.

While Hazzard represented on the international scene, 17-year-old Shantay Augustine, coached by Albert Joseph, head coach at 473 MVP Track Club, made significant strides in local and regional competition. Shantay’s season's best of 12.06s placed her second to Hazzard among the top 10 female performances by Grenadian 100m sprinters in 2023. It represented a substantial improvement from her previous personal best of 12.34s.

Augustine impressed fans with her consistency, regularly finishing atop the podium at local meets and demonstrating exciting potential within the region. This one-two punch of experience and youthful exuberance bodes well for Grenadian sprinting. Hazzard brings a measure of seasoned experience while Augustine, on the other hand, represents the future. Her rapid development and eagerness to learn suggest she could push Hazzard and the rest of the Grenadian sprinting scene further.
