Grenada's junior athletics scene is abuzz with the name of another young talent – Jaynelle Carniegh. This St. Patrick Anglican School student, having dominated the Under-9 category in 2023, is now setting her sights on the Under-11 division at the upcoming Nexa GUT National Primary School Games.

Carniegh's talent was evident early on. In 2023, she cemented her position as the fastest girl in her age group, not only winning the Under-9 80m dash in 12.32s but also shattering the 150m record with a stunning time of 22.4s. This feat eclipsed the previous record of 22.74s set by Kaydonna Douglas in 2017.

Her dominance continued at the recent 2024 Nexa GUT St. Patrick's Branch Primary School Meet, where she claimed an impressive quadruple gold in the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 300m races. But Carniegh didn't just win; she left an indelible mark on the event. In the 200m, she blazed to a new record of 30.6s. Even more impressive was her performance in the 300m, where she not only secured gold but also shattered the Games record with a winning time of 48.9s.

Carniegh's exceptional talent has caught the eye of many, and expectations are high as she prepares for the National Primary School Championships scheduled for March 6th and 7th at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium. Competing in the Under-11 category, she faces a new set of challenges, but her determination and track record suggest she is ready to rise to the occasion.

This young athlete's journey is only just beginning, and Grenada eagerly awaits to see what heights Jaynelle Carniegh will conquer next as hers is undoubtedly a name to remember.
