Deshawn Oliver of St. Patrick's Catholic School has emerged as a name to watch in Grenadian athletics after a dazzling display at the recent Nexa GUT St. Patrick's Branch Primary School Meet last Thursday, Feb 15th, 2024. The talented youngster swept gold in the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 400m races, showcasing his versatility and raw speed. His performance was particularly noteworthy for shattering two long-standing school records. In the 100m, he clocked a blistering 12.6s, erasing the previous mark set in 2005. His dominance continued in the 400m, where he powered to victory in 62.2s, eclipsing the existing record.

These feats come after a commendable bronze medal performance in the Under-13 200m dash at the 2023 GUT National Primary School Games. While his time of 28.21s fell short of the meet record of 26.19s set by Taigon Peterkin in 2017, it solidified his potential and hunger for competition.

Now, eyes turn to the upcoming 2024 Nexa GUT National Primary School Games, scheduled for March 6th and 7th at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium. Young Oliver will once again be competing in the Under-13 category, and his recent heroics have undoubtedly made him a strong contender for podium finishes at nationals.

Deshawn's rapid improvement and exceptional athleticism have captured the attention of local athletics circles. His dedication, coupled with the guidance of his coaches and school, could see him blossom into a future star for Grenada. The upcoming national games will be a crucial test, offering a platform for him to showcase his talent on a bigger stage and potentially rewrite the national record books once again.

Deshawn Oliver has proven thus far that he is a rising talent with the potential to impact the athletic scene in Grenada in years to come. His journey at the national games will be one to watch, and his performance could very well mark the beginning of an exciting athletic career.
